Safety & Moderation Protocol
Your story is the medicine
How our moderators keep the community safe, and what happens when someone may be at risk.
Peer support, not treatment. Ibraluks Foundation offers education and peer support only. We are not a crisis service and do not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or therapy. In a crisis in the US, call or text 988. Elsewhere, see our helpline directory or call your local emergency number.
Moderation model
- No unmoderated public boards. Every space has trained volunteer peer moderators and a named lead moderator.
- New members are approved and must accept the guidelines and confirm their age before posting.
- Automatic filters hold posts that contain crisis language, phone numbers, or links for moderator review.
- Direct messages between members are turned off by default. Adults can never message youth members.
- Moderators are volunteers, not counselors, and are not on duty 24/7.
When someone may be in crisis
- Respond in the open, kindly and quickly. A moderator acknowledges the post and shares crisis options: call or text 988 in the US, or a number from our helpline directory, or the local emergency number.
- No crisis counseling in chat or DMs. Moderators do not try to talk anyone through a crisis privately.
- Imminent danger. If someone shares a specific plan or is in immediate danger and their location is known, moderators encourage them to call emergency services and the lead moderator may contact emergency services.
- Hide harmful detail. Content with methods or graphic detail is hidden from others while support is offered.
- Follow up and debrief. The lead moderator records the incident (without unnecessary personal detail) and checks on the moderator involved.
Safeguarding young people
Any sign that a minor is being abused, groomed, or exploited is escalated to the lead moderator at once, the adult is removed, and the matter is reported to the relevant authorities (in the US, the NCMEC CyberTipline). See youth safeguards.
Enforcement and bans
| Behavior | Usual response |
|---|---|
| Minor guideline slip (off-topic, missing content note) | Friendly reminder, post edited or moved |
| Medical advice, selling, repeated unkindness | Post removed, warning, then mute |
| Harassment, hate, sharing private info, method detail | Removal, possible temporary or permanent ban |
| Threats, grooming, sexual content with minors, doxxing | Immediate permanent ban and report where required |
To appeal a decision or report a concern, email ibra@ibraluks.com (not monitored for emergencies).
